But running a fitness business? Now, that SUCKS! You never know how much money you will have at the end of the week, so planning the annual escape to the sun and buying those oh-so-necessary Louboutin’s can get a tad stressful. It is SO FRUSTRATING when people book for a class then cancel at the last minute with two possible and equally INFURIATING outcomes: Either you’re forced to teach a class with two people when 15 swore they would be there (um hello! Don’t you realise I am paying to hire this hall and I worked my butt off to make this class totally AWESOME for you!); or, the spaces which got canceled last minute (’cause it’s cold/raining/sunny/hot/the kid’s are sick…) are left unfilled while you have a bunch of people on your waiting list! ARGH!
Organising your precious time to find awesome music (that no-one else has!), create incredible routines that your participants will love (cause they feel like Beyonce doing them!), brand your business, market and advertise your classes, keep up with boring admin and finances (hint: get someone else to do the stuff that you DREAD), discover new programs and train in them, find fabulous new venues to teach in (do they exist?!) look up stunning new fitness gear that will make you look and feel tha part… it all takes time. SO. MUCH. TIME.
Ok, I’m going to admit here that I don’t have kids so have no idea how all you mums (especially the super hero single kind. Wait, ‘taken’ mum’s you’re super heros too cause you have another person to run around after too!) cope with all the extra activities, taxi service, laundry, cooking, cleaning, ironing (does anyone do that anymore?) that you have to fit into your days even before your ftness instructing life comes into it. I can totally understand you being run-ragged and TOTALLY EXCHAUSTED feeling GUILTY that you’re not able to spend quality time with your loves and missing that family time. It takes planning and organisation to get yourself a working system that helps you to make the best of both worlds. But before that you have to get real with yourself about what you want your life to look like.
Running a fitness business can be really LONELY and the mean, untalented, life-sapping bitchy instructors who try to poach your participants (who of course are totally loyal and tell you every single thing word-for-word the other instructor said – a word of caution here: do not believe everything you hear!) make you feel like SH*T and make you lose the will to even try to make teaching fitness your full-time, life-giving, wealth-bringing, happinness exuding, SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS.
WHOAH! Take a breather there for a sec. For starters lots of people make up cr*p; second, it’s a CHOICE how we react and respond to other instructors (I prefer to choose the “ignore them, they clearly have so many issues” reason); and, lastly, YOU ARE AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL & TALENTED SIMPLE BECAUSE YOU ARE YOU. You have a ton of exceptional skills which I bet you don’t give yourself credit for. All of this – every part of you – forms the basis of your business, your brand and how you position yourself within the fitness world.
Hi I’m Naomi and I have loved dancing for as long as I can remember (see awesome family pics!)
You’ll be pleased to know that I am now a bit older and wiser. I have been through the same things you are going through in the fitness world, and perhaps even in life in general.
I have been teaching fitness for over 10 years including seven years as a master trainer for the most popular fitness program and lifestyle brand in the world – Zumba.
My extensive experience working as a group fitness instructor in a number of different countries, including the UK, Italy and South Africa, means I have been able to get in-depth knowledge of the industry.
It was this insight which led me to create Fitmalion so I could pass on my wisdom to other group fitness instructors to help them achieve both success and a better work-life balance.
The group fitness industry is full of people just like you who are passionate about their work and who lead classes because they enjoy what they do and get a thrill from seeing their students thrive and develop. I understand and admire your enthusiasm and devotion but I also recognise there are drawbacks including long hours and an unpredictable income.
I will work with you to help you understand exactly what you want from your business and how to achieve your goals. And because I understand that all businesses are unique, my Fitmalion coaching plan will be developed especially for you to meet your individual needs, no one else’s.
And what’s more, you can do it in a stress-free way: I am dedicated to supporting you to fly high!
It might feel daunting now but you can be successful on your own terms
The first thing to realise is that ‘success’ is whatever YOU want it to be. It’s however you picture it, what it sounds like to you and what you will feel like when you are successful. It is totally individual to you!
Have you got that? Don’t go chasing after what other people or the media tells you is “success” (unless of course you do want to live in a mansion with a pool, a sports car plus a family car each, a private jet, billions of pounds in the bank, personal assistants and stylists who do almost everything for you, unliminited holidays – in fact why not just not work at all! Oops, got a little carried away there in cloud cuckoo land…) But seriously, what exactly do you want?
